Congratulations!  You were cleared by the Silent Hill Adoption Agency (S.H.A.A.) and are now eligible to adopt a demon!

Section I, Nurses
This section covers a common demon known as the Nurse.  Though they usually want to kill you when you first adopt them, this guide will help develop a kinship between these demons and you.

1) Choose Your Nurse
Choosing the right Nurse can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.  Though Nurses do have different personalities and needs, each “breed” has its characteristics.

Puppet Nurse: This breed of Nurse was born due to Alessa’s fear of hospitals and nurses.  They are characterized by their old-fashioned attire and humpbacked appearance due to a parasite.  Their favored mode of attack is a scalpel.  Puppet Nurses are not generally popular due to their appearance, but are easy to train and amuse.  WARNING: Do NOT under any circumstances try to remove the parasite!  This will prove fatal to your Nurse!

Bubble Head Nurse:  Originated by James Sunderland’s sexual frustrations and his late wife’s hospitalization, these Nurses wear suggestive outfits and have faces that are distorted.  Their heads pulse and twitch under no control of their own.  Unfortunately, Bubble Heads are more likely to develop skin problems, especially on the face, than most other Nurses.  Their preferred weapon is the lead pipe, and they are swifter than other monsters.

Demon Nurse:  Most “human” of the Nurse breeds, they are among the most popular, despite their defiance when it comes to training.  Their faces are still mostly hidden, not only due to their low hanging bangs but to their posture as well.  Their short, black hair is usually matted with blood from past kills.  They appear to have either vomited blood or devoured a messy kill as their mouths are almost always smeared with blood.  Though most carry steel pipes, some use revolvers with admirable accuracy.  Their weakness is perfume, as they will not shoot when it is equipped.  However, they will swing the butts of their guns as an alternative mode of attack.  Demon Nurses are also noisy from the squishing sounds as they walk to the screams they emit when hurt.  Do not worry if you hear your Demon Nurse panting; this is normal.

Origins Nurse: These resemble the Bubble Head and Demon Nurses, except they tend to use syringes.  They are still being studied in the wild.

Movie Nurse: Made famous due to the Silent Hill Movie, these Nurses are actually a variation of the Bubble Head Nurse.  They attack with scalpels and react to light.

A new Nurse breed has been discovered, but no other information is known at this time.  They resemble the dubbed “Movie Nurse”.  They are still being studied and are not available for adoption yet.

2) Preparing Your Home for a Nurse.
Though each Nurse breed has their own needs, these are general preparations that need to be made for your home.

a)  Lock up all knives, guns, and other potential weapons in secure places that your Nurse will not have access to.  Though Puppet Nurses may not be able to figure out a childproof lock on a drawer, Bubble Heads and Demons can quickly solve them.

b)    Do not leave children and Nurses alone together, especially if the Nurse is hungry or angry.  Nurturing behavior has been recorded, usually around infants.  Still, caution is advised.

c)  Watch your pets.  Slowly introduce your Nurse to your pet.  Neither one will get along for a while, but some cope better than others.  Patience is key to success.  Show your Nurse that your pet is not food.  They will catch on.

d)  Get rid of or lock up any perfumed products you do not want your Nurse getting into.  Make-up and other beauty products are also fair game to the ever-curious Nurse.

e)  Do not leave your Nurse alone.  This is crucial during the first few weeks.  Nurses are naturally social and do not like being alone.  They may act aggressively and/or damage your home.

f)  Do not under ANY circumstances act sexually towards your Nurse.  They do not respond well and can inflict fatal damage to the person misbehaving.  Even simple actions such as looking down her shirt can trigger aggression.  Adopted Nurses are supposed to be companions, not toys.  Treat them with the respect you want them to return to you.

3) Diet
Nurses generally have few diet restrictions.  Here are some recommendations for their diet.

a)    They love meat.  Preferably bloody.  If you are concerned with serving your Nurse undercooked meat, you can transition them to cooked fairly easily.  But once you give them their meat, do not try to take it away.  You might lose a hand.

b)  Fruits and vegetables are foreign to your Nurse.  Just give them samples and see what they like.  They are mostly carnivorous, so vegetables may or may not be desired.  WARNING: Vegan diets will harm your Nurse and possibly you!

c)  Spices are not recommended.  Though not dangerous, they can cause your Nurse to turn her nose up at an otherwise tasty meal.

d) Avoid processed foods.  Foods with excess caffeine, sugar, fat, or salt can cause your Nurse to have an upset digestive system.  They do like the occasional piece of chocolate, but it should be served as rare treats.  See the back of this book for websites that have healthy recipes you and your demon can share.

e) Never, EVER give a demon alcohol or drugs.  Doing so will not only get your demon sick, it will void your license and require the S.H.A.A. to seize your demons and arrest you.

4) What We Recommend
These are items/activities we recommend to keep your Nurse healthy and happy.

a)  Engage your Nurse in activities that vent her aggression and violent tendencies.  These activities can also improve the bond between you and your Nurse.

b)  Grooming is a critical part of a Nurse’s social well being.  Pampering your Nurse by doing her make-up, hair, and giving her new clothes or jewelry will make her happy.  They tend to like shades of red, along with black and white.

c)  Give your Nurse a respectable name.  They take offense and will attack if they realize their name degrades them or their kind.  Names like “Bubbles” for a Bubble Head Nurse are not funny or creative.  Consult a website or book of names to find one best suited to them.

d)  Companionship.  Be with your Nurse and show support.  A playmate is only recommended if you have the facilities to care for a second Nurse.  They will prefer the companionship with each other to a human.  This could result in them ganging up on you.

e) Training and Liability Insurance.  This is mandatory.  Your Nurse is likely to act out at least once.  Learn how to curb this behavior as soon as possible.

5) How We Help
You have been given a Starter Kit to aid your Nurse through the adjustment period from Silent Hill to your home.

a)    A bubble card with seven pills.  Give one to your Nurse once a day.  This will help her adjust to the sun.  Sunscreen is still recommended.

b)  A Med Kit.  These do not work on humans outside of Silent Hill, but it will benefit your Nurse in case she gets injured.

c)  A complimentary membership to the Silent Hill Adoption Club.  There you will meet others who have chosen to adopt demons.  They will give you training tips and provide your demon with friends of their own kind.

6) Breeding
You may be interested in breeding your Nurse.  Here is some crucial information regarding this topic.

a) Nurses appear naturally without breeding in Silent Hill.  Outside, Nurses need a Pyramid Head to breed (see Section II on Pyramid Heads).

b) You need a special certificate to breed.  Contact the S.H.A.A. if you desire to breed your demon.

c) Bred Nurses raised by people tend to exhibit less aggression and violent tendencies against humans otherwise seen in Wild Nurses. Instead, they are prone to tantrums due to possible confusion between demons and humans.  Other bad habits by human-raised demons include biting, hitting, and imitating bad language.

d) The Nurse must be willing.  Forceful breeding will cause adverse health affects, aggression, and possibly death by the hands of her mate.

e)  Nurses have the ability to release an egg at will, usually when she is sure the relationship with her mate is stable.  A strong relationship will ensure survival for not only her but also her offspring.

f) Do not separate parents and child too early, preferably at all.  Though Baby Nurses are desirable to most humans, infants need their mothers and fathers to teach them how to be a demon.  They grow faster than humans, reaching maturity at about 5 years (1 year = 4 human years).  Separation proves traumatic to both parents and daughter.

g) If you desire a Pyramid Head to be born, consult the S.H.A.A. for proper materials and rituals for the conception and birth of a Pyramid Head.  A Pyramid Head born without intervention is a rare occurrence.

7) Encountering a Wild Nurse
Catching a Nurse from the wild is a gamble usually frowned upon by the S.H.A.A.   Not only is it dangerous to the human, but also it can be traumatic to the Nurse captured.  Most Wild Nurses currently up for adoption had been rejected from their groups or had been abandoned by or seized from irresponsible handlers.  Here is a guide for observing a Wild Nurse.

a)  Wild Nurses in groups tend to be the most dangerous.  Observe from a safe distance and do not damage their territory.  A tranquilizer gun or pepper spray is helpful if you do not want to kill them.  Once you kill one, the other Nurses will attack.

b)  Leaving generous offerings of perfume or jewelry can allow you to get a closer view.  This works best with single Nurses or small groups.  Nurses in larger groups can get jealous of others in their group who acquired the offering and do not want to share.  WARNING: Perfume, though it prevents Demon Nurses from shooting, can attract larger groups.  Use with caution.

c)  If you see an injured Nurse that is alone, do not be tempted to help her.  Nurses usually heal fast, and it may even be a decoy for an ambush.  Helping an injured Nurse may also lead to her following you.  This usually is a death sentence to the Nurse if you have no plans to adopt her, as other Nurses will reject or possibly kill her.

d)  Do not feed them.  This will destroy their ability to hunt.  They will start to expect food from humans, and could kill any human who does not feed them.  Some human foods containing excess caffeine, sugar, fat, salt, or preservatives can make Nurses develop digestive problems.  Nurses fully dependent on humans for food can starve to death, since they are no longer fit to hunt.
I did this just for fun. This is a Silent Hill Adoption Guide for the Nurse. If you can think of anything to add, tell me and I'll consider it!
